Many have just participated in the Great CA ShakeOut: a mock earthquake designed to help prepare emergency staff and the public in general for a high magnitude earthquake. What does this mean to the Construction Industry. We are getting lots of free press for the services we offer.

Do you specialize in foundation bolting, earthquake safety, etc.? Plumbers can focus on water heater straps and other work to prevent catastrophic damage. Electricians can inspect older wiring or even sell the indepence of solar. Painting contractors can encourage home owners to use products that can help hide small cracks from lesser earthquakes. Even Cabinet contractors can sell the secure cabinet door latches used to keep food and dishes from flying all over the house.

Now is a great time to approach people and help them see how your services will help them in the event of a large earthquake. Simpson Strong Tie has a great brochure about earthquakes and the possible effects on structures that can be found. How have you seen earthquakes affect your business? Post your comments.
